The World’s First Patented Cotton Swimwear

The World’s First Scientifically Engineered Cotton Swimwear Fabric
Natural Matter. Scientific Performance.

What if nature could not only compete with synthetics—but outperform them?

Pepper Vally® turned this idea into reality with the world’s first patented cotton swimwear — a revolution in fabric innovation that combines sustainability,
dermatological safety, and technological excellence. Discover the Cotton Swimwear Collection

As textile engineers, we’ve leveraged our knowhow and creative process to experiment with various yarn finesses and fabric structures since this idea inception in 2020. Our goal was to create a natural elastic fabric that is lightweight, breathable and aesthetically pleasing, striking the perfect balance between functionality and style – a hallmark of all Pepper Vally® endeavors.

Why This Innovation Matters

The global swimwear industry relies almost entirely on petroleum-based synthetics. Yes, they dry quickly — but they release microplastics, often irritate the skin, and pollute the oceans.

Pepper Vally® believed that cotton — the world’s most beloved natural fiber — could go further.

After four years of research and hundreds of trials, we created a plant-based swimwear fabric that:

  • Matches and even surpasses synthetics in elasticity, drying speed, and durability.
  • Feels cooler and softer on the skin than even underwear.
  • Eliminates risks associated with synthetic materials.

Protected under a Greek national patent and international application, this innovation marks a new era of natural performance in the sea & water.

From Nature to Technology — The Science Behind Our Fabric

We use extra-long staple cotton from Egypt and Greece (35 mm+), known for its strength and silky touch. Through high twist and refining processes, the yarn gains natural elasticity, water resistance, and a smooth texture — without losing cotton’s natural breathability. Every stage, from yarn to finished fabric, takes place in our proprietary textile design and development lab in Athens, ensuring precision engineering and total quality control.

Born and crafted in Greece — a land defined by sunlight, sea and a raw, untamed natural character and way of life — this innovation could only have been conceived here. In a country where swimwear is a way of life, Pepper Vally® reimagined it through science, precision, and a profound respect for nature.

At Pepper Vally® — for us, people who love the sea, the water, the natural landscape, the sun, and the natural way of life — from what we eat, where it comes from, and how it’s cultivated, to what we wear and breathe — it’s simply the way we live.

At some point, we realized that no matter how much we searched, there wasn’t a single swimsuit made from natural fibers anywhere— something that touches the skin the way nature itself does — especially when you spend hours in high temperatures, constantly under the sun or in and out of the water, all day long.

So we said: let’s make it ourselves.

And that’s how it all began- from a simple need to wear something truly kind to our skin, health and the planet, that would make us feel good every day — it eventually became a mission: to bring nature back to the water.

FAQs – Everything You Need to Know About Patented Cotton Swimwear

Composition, Hygiene & Dermatological Benefits

Mostly yes — with full transparency. EU textile labeling regulation allows a garment to be described as 100% cotton even when it contains very small amounts of other fibers (up to ~2%) that do not require disclosure. We choose to be more transparent than the law requires. Pepper Vally® swimwear is 98.2% cotton, with up to 1.8% natural rubber & elastane — just enough for enhanced stretch, recovery, and stability in water. We state the exact composition clearly across all markets we operate in.

For superior skin compatibility, breathability, and zero microplastics — without compromising performance or drying speed. It’s the advanced natural alternative for those who seek purity and respect for skin and environment. Especially important in high temperatures — under the sun in the sea, in saunas, thermal springs & pool water — when the skin pores are open and more sensitive. Cotton stays naturally cool and breathable, without releasing chemicals or microplastics, unlike synthetic fabrics that tend to burden the skin under heat & humidity.

Cotton is a living fiber—each harvest is unique, influenced by climate, soil, and season. Unlike synthetics produced in laboratories with absolute precision and uniformity, cotton requires constant adaptation at every step. This means longer production times, specialized expertise, and countless adjustments to achieve elasticity, quick drying, and durability. It’s not simply a different material—it’s an entirely new invention that took years to perfect.

Understanding the complexity behind natural fiber swimwear helps you appreciate the innovation, craftsmanship, and time invested in each piece. It’s not mass produced—it’s a pioneering product that prioritizes your health and the planet over convenience and cost reduction.

Yes. The 3D structure and high-twist yarns allow air circulation, enabling drying as fast as synthetics.

Absolutely. Only cotton touches the skin; the ≤ 1.8% elastic fibers are fully encapsulated, and the cotton yarn is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, meaning it’s free from harmful chemicals and safe for even the most sensitive skin. Cotton is naturally hypoallergenic, breathable, and gentle ideal for those with eczema, dermatitis, or skin sensitivities.

It means exactly what it says: everything that touches your skin is 100% cotton. The small amount of elastic fibers (up to 1.8%) is fully encapsulated inside the 3D structure of the fabric, so it never comes into direct contact with your skin. Even in the finishing areas — where in most swimwear and even in underwear the elastic is directly exposed to the skin — Pepper Vally® covers all elastic components completely with cotton fabric. The result is a more natural, cleaner, and dermatologically safer feel.

Yes. The naturally stretchy, adaptive 3D fabric structure makes our cotton swimwear comfortable for changing bodies during pregnancy and postpartum. The soft, breathable cotton is gentle on sensitive skin, and the flexible fit adapts without feeling tight. Our one-piece with a front zipper is especially convenient—easy to open and close, offering comfort and practicality for postpartum moments, including breastfeeding.

Unlike synthetic swimwear, where elasticity comes from synthetic fibers, ours achieves stretch through the patented 3D fabric structure — a unique construction that allows natural stretch and recovery. The secret? 100% cotton in skin contact, while a minimal elastic core (1–1.8% elastane + natural rubber) remains locked inside the structure, away from the body.

To create cotton swimwear fabric that stretches, doesn’t sag, and dries quickly requires specialized expertise, countless trials, and continuous adjustments. The time required is at least 6 times longer than synthetics—because we’re creating something totally from scratch, that didn’t exist before.

Because this is something entirely new, there’s no foundation to build on. Techniques that work for synthetic swimwear don’t apply here. Each design requires new pattern adaptations, specialized seam modifications, and bespoke recalibration of both the fabric creation machines and the sewing machines from scratch.

Quality, Production & Sustainability

Refining enhances the fiber’s natural sheen and mechanical strength, improving its stability and resistance in water. High-twist spinning gives natural elasticity and compactness. All together with the 3D fabric architecture in coordinated combination, these techniques allow the cotton to stay stable in water, dry fast, and breathe naturally — without the use of synthetic fibers in contact with the skin.

Yes. Cotton naturally provides some UV resistance, and our patented 3D fabric structure enhances this protection even further. The combination of extra-long staple refined cotton, high-twist yarns, and a dense 3D double-layer construction helps reduce UV penetration compared to standard lightweight cotton fabrics. Our cotton swimwear adds an extra layer of natural sun protection thanks to its advanced structure and fiber quality.

No. The double-layered 3D structure and shirring-like texture ensure the fabric is not see-through, even when wet, and it does not have synthetic inner covers. Only white—like all white swimwear—is slightly transparent, which is why we include a bespoke 100% cotton net-like lining in skin tone in the bust for added coverage.

Our cotton yarns are OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified. Accessories like zippers, strap adjusters and similar, although not all yet holding equivalent certification, are selected based on strict criteria for non-toxicity, durability, and suitability for water use. We are constantly seeking and working to replace them with the best available certified alternatives on the market.

Our brand labels, composition tags, and hangtags have recently been replaced with certified raw -not dyed- cotton to be soft, skin-compatible, and comfortable as part of the fabric itself. Our hangtags are made from paper with FSC, Chlorine Free, pH Neutral, and EKO energy certifications, as well from selected recycled fibers. Our packaging is a bespoke pouch made by Pepper Vally® from raw-not dyed- certified Greek cotton that can be used as a delicate clothing case, pillowcase, or, infused with essential oils, for beauty & relaxation therapy.

From 100% OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified extra-long staple cotton of exceptional quality. We created a smooth and flat fabric using a made-to shape technique to offer complete safety, natural protection, and an unmatched feeling of softness— even when wet. Heat and moisture promote microbial growth, especially with synthetic fabrics that trap heat. Cotton breathes naturally and maintains skin balance. Only cotton touches your skin. The made-to-shape technique produces the exact size required without excess fabric/waste, demonstrating the ecological and thoughtful approach in every stage of Pepper Vally®’s development and production process.

Yes. Our goal was to create a natural, high-performance swimsuit that doesn’t compromise on aesthetics or fit. The simple size guide makes retail sales straightforward, while continuous consumer awareness about the benefits of natural fibers increases traction and helps our partners stand out from the competition.

Surprisingly, no. The texture resembles crinkle fabric in appearance, but ours is 100% cotton—it breathes, feels so natural as if you’re not wearing it, moves with your body, and is kind to your skin. Crinkle fabric has become a swimwear trend, and many brands use it because it’s readily available from textile suppliers. Our fabric isn’t bought —it’s invented. We spent years developing this patented cotton structure from scratch to create an aesthetically flattering swimwear that is good for your health. You’re getting innovation straight from the source.

When natural fabrics like cotton are cut, the fibers naturally fray—it’s part of their organic structure. Synthetics like polyester behave differently: when cut, the edges seal themselves (like cutting a plastic bag—the edge stays smooth and closed). This gives synthetics a “cleaner” look, but it’s simply the result of their chemical composition, not superior quality. Cotton frays because it’s made of natural fibers, not because it’s lower quality—it’s just the nature of organic fibers.

At Pepper Vally®, every piece undergoes strict quality control. However, as with all garment production, a small percentage (typically 1–3%) may present minor natural variations—especially with natural materials.

Even when using identical processes, the properties of natural yarn can vary slightly, unlike synthetics produced in chemical laboratories with absolute uniformity. It’s the nature of living fiber.

These don’t indicate weak stitching but rather reflect cotton’s natural properties. When cut, natural fiber may fray slightly unlike synthetics that maintain clean edges.

Yes. Pepper Vally® cotton swimwear is designed for use in seawater, pool conditions, as well as sauna and thermal springs under controlled and gentle conditions of use. Our patented cotton fabric is developed from refined extra-long staple cotton, high-twist yarns, and a dense three-dimensional structure, specifically engineered to maintain shape stability, comfort, and durability in demanding environments such as seawater, chlorinated pool water, sauna steam, and most common thermal springs with elevated mineral content. Use in sauna and high-heat environments is intended for mild temperatures and normal durations, as applies to any swimwear. It is not designed for extreme or prolonged daily exposure to very high temperatures. While this does not replace certified laboratory testing, our cotton swimwear has been extensively worn and validated in real-life conditions by users across all the environments mentioned above, consistently maintaining its shape, color stability, and comfort.

No more than high-quality synthetics. The 3D structure preserves shape and stretch through repeated use and washing, ensuring long-lasting performance. To extend the product’s longevity, always follow the care instructions on the tag inside the swimwear.

No, quite the opposite. If treated well, our cotton swimwear is more durable than synthetics, with zero pilling and zero fluff. We use extra-long staple cotton treated to become compact and resilient. Poor-quality synthetics often create small balls (pilling) with rubbing and heat—our cotton doesn’t. Proper care ensures long-lasting performance.

Rinsing is the secret to natural fabric longevity. After each use in the sea, sauna, or pool, rinse with cold, clean water to remove salt, sand, or chlorine.

Why it matters: Salt and chlorine can affect fabric elasticity over time. Cold water preserves fiber structure and colors. The 3D fabric structure releases residues and “breathes” again.

Tip: Don’t leave it in the sun unnecessarily—UV affects all fabrics, even the most resilient. Quick rinsing and shade are your cotton swimwear’s best friends.

Caring for natural fabric is simple and rewards you with years of wear.

Washing: Mild machine wash or hand wash with gentle detergent and cold water. Avoid rubbing—cotton is resilient but prefers gentle care. Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residues.

Drying: Air dry in a shaded area. The natural air circulation of the 3D structure makes drying fast. Do not use machine dryers—natural elasticity is better preserved with air drying.

Why it’s worth it: A natural swimsuit isn’t just a garment—it’s an investment in your skin’s health, the planet, and your own well-being. The care you give returns in the form of comfort, safety, and durability. As we say at Pepper Vally®: Natural material. Natural care. Natural longevity.

Follow the rinsing, washing, and drying instructions carefully. Avoid leaving your swimwear in direct sunlight for extended periods—dry it in the shade and allow it to air naturally. Cotton is a living fabric that needs to breathe. Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sun. Proper care ensures vibrant, long-lasting color.

Yes – protected by a Greek patent and internationally under application, confirming the authenticity and uniqueness of Pepper Vally®’s cotton fabric and swimwear innovation.

We continuously improve our processes with each production run, pioneering solutions for an entirely new product category. Transparency and honesty are part of our philosophy—because we believe true luxury is knowing what you wear and why.

Everything. Our swimwear is made from almost 100% OEKO-TEX® certified cotton, is biodegradable, and produced entirely in Greece with full vertical integration. We use minimal synthetic materials (only ≤1.8% encapsulated elastane/natural rubber, never touching skin), certified sustainable packaging, FSC-certified hangtags, and a made-to-shape technique that eliminates fabric waste. We prioritize transparency, natural materials, and ethical slow production at every stage.

Cotton is one of the oldest and most versatile natural fibers. Through specialized fabric construction processes, as well as high-twist spinning and refining treatments, cotton can be engineered to meet specific performance requirements—like elasticity, durability, and quick drying while remaining soft, breathable, and gentle on skin. Unlike linen or hemp, which are naturally stiff and inelastic, cotton can achieve the stretch, resilience, and comfort needed for swimwear without compromising skin safety or requiring significant synthetic blending.
